For me, I have always found blogging for my own business a challenge. It’s not that I don’t know what to say (I have plenty of ideas to share), it’s that I find it difficult to articulate them and actually write them down or type them out, and then when I try and force it, it makes me stressed as I find myself staring at a blank screen for what feels like hours, I think perhaps it’s because I’m too close to the picture, but I know and understand the real value and impact in blogging.
What is really important when it comes to blogging on a regular basis, particularly if you are someone who finds it a little challenging is to plan it out. First I decide what I would like the subject of my blog to be, thinking about what is relevant in my industry and what would benefit my audience, then I bullet point a few key areas that should be discussed within the blog and I share these with Kate. We set a deadline for when I have to send this information and when she needs to create it, which makes us both accountable. I find this planning process is key to making sure they go out like clockwork each month. You could plan the next six months’ blogs and set yourself deadlines, put it in your diary to keep yourself accountable and I promise you, if you do keep up with your regular blogging, you will see such a difference.
Did you know that around 70% of consumers prefer blogs over advertisements to learn about companies and 77% of internet users report that they regularly read blog posts, so if you aren’t in this percentage of people blogging, maybe you’re missing out.
Of course, it’s great to share your thoughts, ideas and knowledge in a blog and to have your voice out there in the world, but there are also so many tangible benefits to having a regular blog on your website for your business and I’m going to share a few with you here.
For those of you who don’t know, SEO is search engine optimisation, which essentially is where you appear in a search engine such as Google or Bing, and those who appear near the top of the page tend to have more traffic to their website and therefore more customers. Having a website that is SEO optimised will help you promote and grow your business and regular blogs on your website will boost your SEO, which means more traffic, more visitors and potential customers and therefore more sales.

Writing regularly about your area of expertise and sharing your knowledge with your audience will position you as an authority figure and a leader in your field. Also, regular blogging will rank you higher in the search engines and therefore you will be perceived as more trustworthy and credible by users. Think of it this way, if you read regular content from a marketing expert who talks about marketing strategies, statistics, and offers you tips and tricks on how to improve your marketing, you are more likely to then use that person for their marketing services as they have demonstrated they know what they are talking about and positioned themselves as an authority figure, as opposed to someone you’ve never heard of.

As I’ve said above, regular blogging will boost your SEO, it will mean you rank higher in Google and other search engines and therefore establish your authority and this, in turn, will also increase your brand awareness, as higher visibility and higher rankings will contribute to building your brand awareness with your audience. It will help potential customers to find you easily and associate your area of expertise with your brand.

If your blog is educational and you are sharing your knowledge with your audience, you are therefore addressing your client’s pain points and needs and offering solutions for them. When you do this for your audience they are more likely to engage with your content, whether that is commenting on your blog or sharing it with someone else via email, links, or social media. It also goes back to positioning you as an authority figure, because if they trust you and like your content, they also feel encouraged to engage with it. If you do find people leaving comments on your blog, be sure to reply to the comments, making them feel valued.

Regular blogging on your website can drive user engagement by offering valuable, informative, engaging and interactive content. It will help you to build a relationship and connection with your audience and potential clients that encourages community and increases the time they will spend on your site. It will also boost your SEO, which of course contributes to more frequent and meaningful engagement with your brand and ultimately increases sales.
Perhaps if you have been meaning to add blogging to your marketing strategy but it keeps falling down your to-do list, hopefully after reading this, it may move further up your priority list.
