It will come as no surprise that I am a massive fan of WordPress. It’s the number one platform on which I build my client websites, but what you may not know, is the reason why I choose WordPress over other platforms.
As well as great functionality and being user friendly, it has a vast amount of plugins available for you to use, which not only means your website functionality is expanded, but it also creates a better end user experience.
In basic terms, a plugin is a piece of software that adds a specific feature or function to your website, without altering the website’s initial coding or structure. There are different plugins available depending on what you want to achieve, maybe you want to boost your SEO, or integrate a form into your site, or perhaps have additional security features, whatever it is you are looking to do, there is probably a plugin for it.
There are so many plugins available to you, knowing which ones to use and will benefit your website the most can be a bit of a minefield, so here are my go to plugins that everyone should have on their WordPress website.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. I mentioned above that having great SEO on your website is the difference between the search engine directing customers to your website and your ideal clients finding you, or finding your competitors. Therefore, having the Yoast SEO plugin is an essential tool for your site. As well as directing your clients to your site, it provides a comprehensive analysis of where your clients have come from to help you focus your marketing efforts in the right direction.
Google analytics integration simplifies the process of tracking and understanding your website traffic and your user behaviour. This handy little plugin integrates a variety of Google services into your WordPress dashboard. This means you get things like Google Analytics and Google Search Console and you can see all the metrics and data without having to leave your website.
We all know that first impressions count and if you don’t capture your audience’s attention quickly you will lose them. This is never more true than on your website, according to recent studies, you have 7 seconds to capture someone’s attention before they disappear, so if your website is slow, or takes too long to load, you may lose a potential client. That’s where this plugin comes in. It is a caching solution, which means it helps optimise the performance of your site and speed it up for your end user.
Site safety should be your number one priority, especially if you have client information on it. Having this plugin provides comprehensive protection for your site. It shields your website from security threats like malware and hacking attempts, giving you peace of mind.

The ability to have a user-friendly form builder can really benefit many business websites. Why? Because it simplifies the creation of contact forms, surveys, and other interactive elements. They will save you time, are user friendly, allow you to gather client information with ease, can improve your end user experience and help reduce spam.
This fantastic little plugin is all about backup and restoration. It safeguards your website by creating regular backups, which in turn allow for quick restoration in case of data loss or site issues. If all your defenses fail and your site gets hacked, this plugin will ensure you don’t lose any of your data, and you can recover your site without all the stress and hassle that can come in these situations. It is a no-brainer!
Always ensure your plugins are compatible with the version of WordPress you are using and other previously installed plugins to maintain your site’s stability and security.
