I don’t know about you, but the end of the year always feels really reflective for me. As work quietens down and Christmas approaches, I love looking back at the past 12 months and thinking about how it all went.
What was great? What wasn’t so good?
What did I succeed in? Where did I not quite hit the mark?
Because I believe that a new year offers a fresh start; and it’s our job to make the most of that.
Here are three ways I like to re-evaluate and reinvigorate my business as I enter the new year.
1. Think about your business
Okay, this might sound like an obvious one, but how often do you take stock of your business and consider how it can be improved?
As a digital creative, I place a major focus on how businesses are showing up online. A brilliant way to assess this is through a website audit. A website audit looks at your website performance and SEO functionality and clearly shows you where – and how – you can improve. It gets your website working better, not harder, so you can draw in more of your dream audience and generate those all important leads.
Now is also the prime time to take a look at the content you’ve been producing and figure out what’s been gaining the most engagement and responses. Social media, your blog and your newsletter will all hold vital insights to show you what your audience like… and then? Well, do more of it! Tailor it into a strategic 2020 content plan that harnesses your business goals.
And if it’s a total transformation you’re after, perhaps it’s time to rewrite your digital story with a website that levels up your business and authentically reflects your brand? You can build your website relaunch into a brand refresh. New year, new you after all!
2. Think about your clients
A happy customer equals a happy business. Are you doing everything you can to make your clients feel loved?
Put yourself in their shoes: how enjoyable is their customer journey?
The close of the year is a useful time to look at your different client pathways, such as on-boarding, referral schemes, daily management and signing off partnerships. These are all operational strategies and can be streamlined through business management systems such as Dubsado, HoneyBook and Bloom.
Also; are you making them feel special?
Why not feature your clients on social media, or even write a spotlight blog on them? As the festive season gets nearer, you could even pop them a thoughtful gift or handwritten card in the post.
Sometimes the smallest things go the longest way.
3. Think about yourself
The most important, but the most often ignored. Give yourself a little self love.
If you want your business to thrive, it’s vital that you’re doing more than just surviving. While, yes, you are your business… you are also so much more than that.
Give yourself the space to truly think about how well you’ve looked after yourself in the past year. Whether you enjoyed time away from the desk with friends and family, enjoying hobbies or even just being out in nature.
Working with passionate, dedicated and knee-deep business owners reminds me every day of the pressure that comes with running your own empire. It’s a labour of love, but a labour nonetheless.
That’s why I want to start talking more and more about the importance of taking care of your body and mind when you’re your own boss. Now is the opportune moment for us all to take action.
Decide on even one “thing” that you’ll implement into your daily routine next year that will contribute to your wellbeing. You won’t regret it.
We all know the phrase: the longest journey begins with a single step. I hope these small actions can help you get ready for an exciting 2020. If I can support you on that journey, please get in touch; I’m currently taking bookings for 2020 digital services and would love to chat.
