Why your website isn’t getting enquiries (and how to fix it)

You have a website.
It looks fine.
People visit it.

But… your website is not getting enquiries.

This is something I hear a lot from small business owners. A website can look perfectly good on the surface, but still not bring in enquiries. The good news is that in most cases there are clear reasons why, and they can usually be fixed without starting from scratch.

Here are some of the most common reasons your website might not be getting enquiries, and what you can do about it.

1. There is no clear call to action

When someone lands on your website, they should know straight away what to do next.

Should they:

  • Contact you
  • Request a quote
  • Book a call
  • Fill in a form

If your website does not clearly guide visitors, they will often just leave.

Make sure every page has a clear next step, especially your homepage and service pages.

2. Your website does not build trust

People will only get in touch if they feel confident in your business.

Things that help build trust include:

  • Real photos of you or your work
  • Testimonials or reviews
  • Clear contact details
  • A professional design
  • Up to date content

If your website feels outdated or incomplete, visitors may assume your business is the same.

3. Your website is slow or hard to use on mobile

More than half of website visits now come from mobile devices. If your site is slow, difficult to read, or hard to navigate on a phone, people will leave before they even see what you offer.

Common issues I see include:

  • Large images slowing the site down
  • Menus that are hard to tap
  • Text that is too small
  • Pages that take too long to load

Speed and usability make a huge difference to whether someone stays on your site.

4. Your website is not set up for SEO

If your website is not showing in search results, people will not find you in the first place.

Basic SEO setup should include:

  • Page titles and meta descriptions
  • Clear headings
  • Optimised images
  • Good page content
  • Google Search Console connected
  • A sitemap submitted to Google

SEO does not have to be complicated, but without it your website will struggle to bring in new enquiries.

5. Your content does not clearly explain what you do

One of the biggest problems I see is websites that look nice but do not actually explain the service.

Visitors should be able to answer these questions within a few seconds:

  • What do you do
  • Who do you help
  • Where are you based
  • How can I contact you

If people have to guess, they will usually leave.

Simple, clear wording often works much better than trying to sound too clever.

6. Your website has not been updated in years

Websites need looking after, just like anything else in your business.

If your site has not been updated for a long time, it may have:

  • Outdated plugins
  • Old content
  • Broken links
  • Security issues
  • Poor performance

This can affect both how your website looks to visitors and how it performs in search results.

Sometimes a few updates are all that is needed to make a big difference.

7. You might not need a new website, just some improvements

A lot of people assume they need a completely new website when enquiries slow down, but that is not always the case.

Often the solution is:

  • A design refresh
  • Better SEO setup
  • Faster hosting
  • Clearer wording
  • Improved layout
  • Regular maintenance

Small changes can make a big difference to how your website performs.

Need a second opinion on your website?

If your website is not bringing in enquiries, we offer website audits and support to help you understand what might be holding it back.

This could be a few small tweaks, or it might be time for a bigger refresh, but either way it is always worth knowing what is going on behind the scenes.
