Ever wondered how videos can help improve your website SEO?
Video SEO results rank more easily and have a far higher click-through-rate from search results because they stand out in the search results. When users search a specific keyword such as “yoast seo” for example, the below result would appear:
Now if you have added a video to your website using an embed code you got from say YouTube, you may think that’s all you need to do in order for the video to be indexed by Google. WRONG! In order for your video to be ranked by Google you need to have something called an XML VIDEO SITEMAP, this is similiar to your website xml sitemap that contains all your pages and that you submit to Google Webmasters.
However, with a Video XML Sitemap, only the videos need to be indexed. Now creating a Video XML Sitemap will vary depending on the platform you are using for your website.
If you are using WordPress, the Yoast Video SEO plugin is perfect and something we use ourselves. You can purchase the plugin from here.
Now if you have a basic HTML and CSS website you will have to manually create the XML sitemap, you can find out more about how to do this at the following link
Once you have created your Video XML Sitemap, the next step is to upload the sitemap to Google Webmasters just like you did for your content XML sitemap. Make sure not to delete your content XML sitemap and just add an additional one for the video sitemap.
Once you have done that your videos will now be indexed by Google and should start appearing in your search results in no time!
